Tomato 26 Feb, hennie (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
are there any signs of rot on the stems , help them along with 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts in five liters of water every two months. losing of flowers usual has only two causes , a shortage of water and or shortage of minerals , therefore ensure that water is provided and don't water the foliage but soil level , but don't over water them . Epsom salts seems to be a wonder solve them all. red spider mites lay there eggs in the stems of your plants check for any signs of damage,on the stems.

I Have a beautiful rainbow chilli in a large pot in full sun. It's turning yellow and wilting. Am I over or under watering it ?
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 01 Jun, Mike (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Chili plants don't need lots of water, sounds as if you might be overwatering.

Watermelon 28 May, joe (South Africa - Dry summer sub-tropical climate)
I would like to plant watermelons early July in the Limpopo valley can I do it , for the temp is around 19-28 ? Should I plant this directly or start by planting in seed trays ?
Watermelon 05 Jan, Pieter (South Africa - Dry summer sub-tropical climate)
Hi Joe, early Jul is a bit risky as you can still get black frost. Farmers around Lephalale push the planting date - Sometimes they're lucky.... delivering season first watermelon....

Celery 14 May, diane (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
My celery has white colour on the leaves almost like white spots. Do you perhaps know whats causing this or what I can do to remedy.
Celery 17 Mar, Bee-Pie (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Look for aphids. If the leaves become mottled with rust coloured spots it's probably bacterial blight.
Garlic 12 May, Jose Alvares (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)

Garlic 13 May, Jo (Australia - temperate climate)
Harvest garlic in early summer, when the lower leaves have turned yellow and die off. You can dig down gently along side the plants to check if they have formed bulbs before you pull them up.

Lettuce 04 May, Imthiaz Hoosen (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Hi I am assisting a community garden project in Grasmere, South of Johannesburg. Please advise if lettuce can be planted in May. Thank you
Lettuce 10 Oct, Roger Chicken (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Hi Imthiaz, just picked up your question today and thought I could provide some clarification, especially as we are in the same area.I Find that lettuce love the cooler months here, and will take some light frost. They tend to "bolt" in the hot summer months and do better in broken shade during this time. If you plant seeds in trays at the beginning of Feb. you can start planting out seedlings in early March and continue through to Oct. / Nov.
