Onion 21 Sep, Sarina (Australia - temperate climate)
Our onions (brown and red) are hanging on the fence in a planter box we made from pallets(we have a dog who likes to knock things over). However something is eating the tips of the leaves and only the tips. It wouldn't be possums as the dog would be going crazy. There is no bugs at all near the plants. The fence is colourbond steel, in off-white, and we can not see any trails, marks, tell tale signs of any slugs or snails etc. there is no bugs or sign of them in or around the pallets, and the boxes are lined with weed mat to stop the dirt from falling out. Any ideas of what this could be that's loving the tops of the onions? It's our first ever attempt at growing veggies, and we would really like some to survive!
Onion 29 Aug, Sally-Anne Pucek (Australia - temperate climate)
I discovered our cat was nibbling the tips of our young garlic and onions...

Rhubarb 20 Sep, Senta (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
I find my plant is a black stump in the long frosty season, but now September it is happy. My question please is- do I need to wire it over in the bush to protect it from the roos or other critters?

Broad Beans (also Fava bean) 18 Sep, Ken (Australia - temperate climate)
Fully in flower but plants have leaf curl.
Celeriac 17 Sep, Melisse Clark (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
I thought I planted celeriac at the right time - May, but now Sept & no bulbs. It's been nice & damp, good drainage with compost pre-dug in, planted in full sun, but cool thru winter. They look like they've had to much nitrogen though I haven't used it. If I added potassium now, how long could I/should I leave them?
Celeriac 11 Sep, Taleya (Australia - temperate climate)
If the plants have survived, then leave them as is - they should hopefully start to swell up into bulbs and give you harvestable produce by december/january
Kale (also Borecole) 17 Sep, Mỹthanh Nguyễn (Australia - tropical climate)

Kale (also Borecole) 21 Sep, Jason Little (Australia - tropical climate)
I came across a real winner - check eBay store "items2buy4". Australian based; all my seeds have sprouted and the Red Kale is absolutely flying along.

I would like to plant garlic in Zimbabwe at the altitude of over 1500m (the Highveld). The soils are clay-loam with clay content of less than 24%. When should I plant and which variety and what is the time to harvest. Any recommended fertilizer regime?

We have a chilli plant and the chilli has not grown. They are red but only about a centermetre long and starting to shrivel up. What are we doing wrong?
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 16 Nov, wayne (Australia - temperate climate)

Ginger 13 Sep, Olivia (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi there, a friend gave me a ginger plant but I've found different suggestions on the net wether to plant it in full sun or shade. Its a huge rhizome and app. 90 cm long green leafy stems. Should the whole root be covered by earth? I'm located in the Upper Hunter Valley, NSW. Thanks Olivia
Ginger 18 Nov, damien (Australia - temperate climate)
if you are growing eating ginger, they prefer half sun/shade place. The best place would be seeing the morning sun, but not the lunch and afternoon sun, since lunch and afternoon sun are too strong and will burn the leafy. Also it would be best to water them each day if planted outdoor.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 13 Sep, Rose (Australia - temperate climate)
My two new Cape Gooseberry plants, still in small pots, have yellowish spots on their leaves. Does anyone know if this is normal or is it a sign of fungal development? If so what would be the best fungicide to use?
Radish 11 Sep, suzette (Australia - temperate climate)
How much fertiliser is needed for radishes? No root development and lots of leaves makes me think too much fertiliser.
Lettuce 11 Sep, Peter (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
My wonderful 80 odd yr old neighbour gave me this tip and works really well. When washing your lettice add salt to the water and snalls ect leave much quicker. Its surprising whats left in the water after doing this.
Potato 11 Sep, Jean Bittkau (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
You can cut off a piece of potato with 2 eyes . Let the cut dry out for a day or two. This helps seal in moisture and prevents rot setting in.
Garlic 11 Sep, Robert (Australia - tropical climate)
Could I but a few Australian white garlic seed from you please. Kind regards Robert
Rhubarb 10 Sep, rubie (Australia - temperate climate)
just dig in some compost and aged manure then plant the crown. It works well in this climate
