I grew loofhas this year and has success. But my question is...I have some very large loofahs that seem to just get bigger and then I have some that (to me) are small and are turning yellow. I can't find a good answer as to know when to pick them. Any advise? I can't let them dry on vine because it's getting down in the mid 30's already

Eggplant (also Aubergine) 03 Jan, Roy (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hello Jan and Kirsten, Same problem, healthy plants which have grown well, I should have said "I had the same problem" until having taken one of the flowers off and rubbing that one into the stamens of other flowers and voila, fruit. in fact too many.
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 06 Dec, Jan (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Kirsten, did you get any answers to this question, I have the same problem. I purchased a grafted eggplant from Bunnings. same as I did last year but I had an abundance of eggplant last year. This year the flowers form then shrink and fall off. no eggplant behind them. Has anyone got any clues to this problem?
Asparagus 04 Oct, kathy (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
My plant is one year old. Growing well but lots of ferns. Should i cut them down and how far and cut all ferns down? Or just leave it. About half metre tall.
Asparagus 05 Oct, Frans (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Hi Kathy. Yes you should trim is to about 10 cm. The focus for the first 16 months should be root oriantated. Cutting it down will fors the roots to work and grow better as more nutrients are available for just that. Give a good dose of bone meal (beenmeel) after such a trimming. Hope you find this helpfull.

Can I just harvest leaves from my mixed lettuces or do I have to uproot them and sow more seed...??
Lettuce 09 Oct, Marzi (Australia - temperate climate)
If it is the coral type of lettuce and not iceberg (those with a firm heart) then you can pick the outer leaves and it will keep producing until time to bolt (seed)

Beetroot (also Beets) 19 Nov, Carol (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Hi Esther. You can use them anytime bearing in mind that the larger they grow the tougher they'll get. Remember to keep the water up to them to keep the leaves tender and to swell the beetroot itself
Beetroot (also Beets) 16 Nov, wayne (Australia - temperate climate)
You can pick the leaves when they a reasonable size eg more than 10cm is good or bigger if you like it's personal choice. You wont damage the plant by picking them. great in salad or stirfry

Rosemary 02 Oct, Deborah (Australia - arid climate)
Hello... I wanted to do a mass planting of lavender and rosemary with 5 or so kangeroo paws in a corner. I was hoping that because both lavender and rosemary were from the Mediterranean area, this would work. Do I follow the 'rules' for planting rosemary, for lavender. Do you happen to know if the kangaroo paw would be okay amongst them?
Rosemary 29 Oct, Genevieve (Australia - temperate climate)
Have for 8 years had lavender and rosemary alongside each other with no problems. Bees love their flowers. Never had any success with kangeroo paws neither did my neighbours, it must be our soil. Live in Leichhardt, sydney and we also don't have any luck with azealeas.
