My tomato plant has been attacked by green caterpillars. I have been picking them off by hand but they are prolific. What else can I do?

Try spraying the caterpillars with Pyrethrum spray. It is a non-toxic spray that can be used on any insect pests. You can make your own (recipes found on Youtube) but I don't bother as I don't need it that often. I use a commercial concentrate from Yates. One bottle will last for years.

I used to have the same problem and didn't like chemicals, now I buy old lace curtains from the Op shop sor a dollar or two and as the Flowers are pollinated and set fruit from the the bottom, I wrap the curtain around the plant and close it with clothes pegs, I leave all the flowering stems above uncovered, the fruit is protected from the White butterfly and the King parrots which love a ripe tomatoe. Also protests them from the sun. As the fruit sets higher I just move the curtain up. Hope this helps. Cheers lynne

My mother has had diificlty getting her pumpkins to produce female flowers. She gets lots of leaves and male flowers, but no female. Any idea why, and what she can do to get pumpkins this year?

I'm in Ohio and my gooseberry bush loves this weather. Cold winters and warm summers. They are good grown in sun and partial shade.

My cauliflower plants bolted to flower & seed after small heads formed. If I harvest the seed now (end October) and keep in paper bag is it likely to be viable to plant in March/April? I am in the subtropical zone.

Bought a punnet of purple asparagus "ferns" from Bunnings garden centre. About dozen ferns in punnet. Would appreciate some tips on how deep to plant and should I cover every few weeks with soil? Intending to grow in a raised bed measuring 90cm x 90cm x 40cm.

Our corn is very attractive to 2 different bugs at present. A brown bi-coloured bug with long proboscis and a green bug. They seem to suck on the kernels and then the kernel turns brown. How should they be treated? Many thanks

I have grown plants from store-bought capsicums very successfully & they are now about 12 inches tall but would like to know if they need to be staked & do I just feed then liquid seaweed fertiliser. Also how long before the fruit appears

I haven't seen a lot or any bees to pollinate the zucchini flowers, as advised by D. Afford, how do we find recognise which is the make and female flowers to hand pollinate? This also happened to my strawberries, again, lack of bees.

Hi, I have got white sticky stuff on the leaves of my chilli plant and the chives next to them have also now. I am away on our boat and don't know what to treat it with, I have vinegar on board? Or do I just try to wash it off with mild detergent? Appreciate your advice,
