I live close to Bonalbo in northern NSW soil type heavy clayey loam Id like to grow french shallots to harvest the bulb for cooking is there a bulk supplier in Brisbane where i could obtain a few kilos of stock? The area is prone to winter frost but the days are generally warm with wetter hot summers thankoyu

I have found the best and cheapest bulk supplier are Woolworth or Coles supermarkets less than nursery school by a factor of 4:1 good luck. Stuart Winchelsea Vic

I live in Brisbane and when we buy Shallots from the supermarket we cut the bottoms off and plant them and they seem to grow fine. Although you will find that most things you buy as shallots are actually Spring Onions.

I bought shallots bulbs at Bunnings. They have golden and red. Quite expensive... $ 8.50 for 6 bulbs...

i couldnt find shallots anywhere, neither seed nor bulbs. Finally I bought some Golden and some red from the supermarket, grew from them. I also saved seed the year before last, sowed lst year and now have some "sets" to plant. No idea if red and Golden cross pollinated, don't mind if they did.
