(Best months for growing Rockmelon in Australia - sub-tropical regions)

  • S = Plant undercover in seed trays
  • T = Plant out (transplant) seedlings
  • P = Sow seed
  • Grow in seed trays, and plant out in 4-6 weeks. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 20°C and 32°C. (Show °F/in)
  • Space plants: 40 - 60 cm apart
  • Harvest in 10-16 weeks.
  • Compatible with (can grow beside): Sweetcorn, Sunflowers
  • Avoid growing close to: Potatoes

Not unless you have a green house, rockmelons grow best in hot climates. The frost wouls also kill them even if they were fully grown.

"Pick on the Slip" -They will slip off the bush, so where the vine connects to the fruit it will break. you can sometimes see the stem connections starting to shrink. but if you lift up the fruit and it falls off its ready.
