I'm from Centurion and had some horseradish plants. They died towards the end of 2015 in the drought but I managed to save a plant that is now doing well again. Make a note and contact me in August 2016 and I will give away some roots to start with in the new growing season. First-come-first-served. e-mail: [email protected]

I have been looking after a friends plants. One of them was a horseradish plant in a pot. Just one little frail leaf. It did not last. So will I be able to get a replacement now from a nursery? I live in inner city Sydney

Margaret, I haven't found the perfect time, the size of the leaves don't tell me anything. Last week I did use some, just scraping away surrounding soil and seeing the thickness of the root helped, the root was fairly thick, about the same as two fingers plus a little more. Getting it out is the hard part, the roots go down a long way so I cut the amount I needed and replaced the soil. Be careful if you do this because the root is very strong, a serrated knife worked o.k
