In most big supermarkets all around northern Europe and Scandinavia you can find all forms. A container of grated horseradish, from the fresh food section, is fine and doesn't last long enough for me to know its 'use by' date. It's good with lots of unexpected foods and it's particularly good with potato soup (makes it far more interesting) as well as beef, which was created to go with horseradish.

Can anyone tell me if horseradish will grow at all in the Southeast Queensland region, Sunshine Coast, maybe through winter.

I live just south of the border in NSW and my horseradish is doing really well. It took a while for it to establish - now it's shot off everywhere.

Hi Liora, We just moved to Kingscliff from Alice Springs, NT and I would like to grow my own horseradish. May I ask, where did you source your plant/root from? Alternatively, do you have a piece I could purchase? Thanks, Trish

Horseradish should grow well in SE Qld but would probably still be dormant in the winter, particularly in cooler areas such as Toowoomba.

I always bought Heinz horseradish in a jar at Safeway or Coles now no longer available.Can buy it under Masterfoods but taste is horrible.Would love a real recipe to make my own(nice & creamy with a good bite of zest)where can I buy this plant??Bunnings??or other garden outlets???Please advise I live in Langwarrin vic

Hi Trudy. I bought my horseradish root through ebay - a place in the Blue Mountains (NSW) - it's grown magnificently but it did take a while to establish.
