I am staying in Kempton Park. Have been to all nearby nurseries and can not get any artichokes to buy. Please give me places/nurseries where I can get some. Thank you.

Try Lifestyle Garden Centre off Byers Naude Drive in Randburg. They sometimes have more usual veggies and fruits as well as herbs. You should be able to Google them and get their contact details. Good luck :)

Work out your climate zone from the description here in the BLUE TAB - CLIMATE ZONES. Looks to me you might be Dry summer sub-tropical. Then check the planting time in the monthly calendar guide.

Try mulching them with grass on top. I would suggest cutting them back and muchine them with saw dust or grass. Regards
