Broccoli 28 May, Keith (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
I live in Centurion, not far from Bronkhorstspruit and I use the Summer Rainfall area as my guideline. We did use the subtropical guidelines when we lived near Durban. Broccoli is perhaps the easiest of the Brassicas to grow, but you should start your crop as seedlings in August/ September and transplant each seedling into a 2-3 litre pot of compost in about August. Transplant to your garden - use about a half-square metre per plant, in late September. We still have broccoli heads in late May here now, but we are blessed with warm weather. Frost may strike any day...

Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 13 Jun, Micky (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
We farm in the Ermelo weather district which is also freezing cold between April and September and I grow parsley with success outside in the veggie patch. They do grow best when protected from wind like in a sunny courtyard, but they seem to be quite hardy and resistant to anything but drought. My grandmother used to grow her's in large steel drums and they just boomed. She also added used (cooled) teabags to her parsley and that seemed to make them grow even better. It works well for garden mint (the common variety) as well.

Brussels sprouts 18 Apr, manny (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
After picking the sprouts, will new ones grow on the same stem as with broccoli?
Brussels sprouts 19 Apr, Liz (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Sprouts will continue to form up the stem, so pick from the bottom first. You can also cut the top and and eat that when you have had enough sprouts off the plant.

Asparagus 15 Apr, Johnny Meinert (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
Hi, am living on a smallhold close to Swakopmund in Namibia.Plot owners plant successfully green asp on rather salty soil.I would like to try white asp on 1/4 ha land.Soil is soft and fine. We never have frost and have to water since we have no rainfall. Preferable thick stemms since i would like to market already peeled stems. Please advise type of young plants and where to buy against what costs. Regards, Johnny.

Cauliflower 06 Feb, "Kid"s rice (South Africa - Dry summer sub-tropical climate)
If you steam the cauliflower to slightly underdone (about 10-12min) Pulse shred it in a processor to a rice consistancy. Serve with a sauce... My kids did not even realize what they were eating...they hat veggies, love rice. It is also an excellent idea for dieters.
