Good day Hannalie. It is always better to grow in a tunnel. "Tip" to heat the tunnel up in winter: build your compost pile inside the tunnel. The heat from the compost pile can increase the temperature of your tunnel with up to 10*C.

I grew fennel last year in east london. It did very well but I didn't understand how and when to harvest it for some time. It almost overwhelmed me. I would rather have it as an annual in future.

Hothouse is good for winter, summer time I recommend shade netting house constructed with cheap treated wooden poles and at least 40% shade netting to keep sun off a bit and birds out. Grow your own choice of tomatoe variety and any other summer vegetable you wish. PS. Make the structure tall enough to stand up in or you’ll get a pain in the back crouching over.
