I would like to know how to grow asparagus, where to get the seedlings, when can I grow and at what temperature, lastly how long does it take to harvest and how? I live in Lesotho but the site could not list my country hence why South Africa since Lesotho is inside South Africa geographically like a kidney in a body. Thank you

If possible purchase 2 yr. old "Crowns". These are asparagus plants (roots). There are a number ideas for how to plant them - just visit Youtube or Google for step-by-step pictures along with description of soil mixture and fertilization. Then wait another year before harvesting. Honestly I have never grown from seed. But in either case you are looking at a couple of years before you will have a decent crop.

peas are a cool summer crop , and can be grown in autum , they are cold hardy , but not frost resistant , they generaly do well straight through the year.

In Vancouver. Just pick 1/2 or 1/3 of the leaves and it will continue to regenerate. I've been doing that for months now. I pinch the flowers to prevent bolting but will probably let a few go so it can self seed for next year.

Pour boiling water over a handful of chopped up tomato leaves and 3 subsections of garlic. Allow to infuse for 24 hours then remove vegetable matter, add a drop of dish washing liquid and spray on chilli leaves about once a week. If you want to get fancy you can also add a drop of linseed oil to the mix but I've found it works fine without.

you could use the chilly itself to deter the pests .............you take the fruit pulp it and pour warm water over the pulp let it stew for a few minutes ......one cup to one fruit ...........and use a bottle sprayer to spray the whole plant making sure o spray the underside of the leaves too............that should hold the pests at bay for a while if not working the up your ratio of fruit to water.... hopefully that works well

First time growing asparagus, I'm situated in Malawi, Lilongwe. I found this article infomative as I'd no idea the berries were poisonous, I actually thought they were seed pods as they haven't turned red yet ! Any advice on growing in this part of the world would be a great help, thank you.
