Look on the internet for people who sell strawberry runners. Find out the right time to plant them. I'm sub tropical Australia and early April is the time here - mid autumn.

Tomato 02 May, Mike Begley (South Africa - Dry summer sub-tropical climate)
I live in the Coastal Overberg Region and planted my tomato seedlings in containers during March. They seem to be doing well at 50cm. Have I planted too late to enjoy more than one harvest?

Plant seeds Aug and transplant from Sept to Nov. If you planted indeterminate kinds of tomatoes they will crop over several months.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 01 May, Wilma (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
I have been successful with planting my own gooseberry plant from seeds. Mind however not a bush but long stem which need support. How can I "train" or prune it into a bush.
Lettuce 30 Apr, Keith (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Hi I punnet my lettuce but the turn colour the next day. They start getting brown especially when I cut my lettuce on a rainy day and pack them. What I'm i doing wrong ?
Lettuce 06 May, Anon (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
When you cut lettuce dry it out before putting in a bag and into the fridge. A spinning colander is best.
Potato 27 Apr, Shirley (South Africa - Humid sub-tropical climate)
When growing potatoes what fertilizer does one use
Potato 28 Apr, Anon (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Just look for a general all round gardening fertiliser. If you look at all the fertilisers for different crops there is not a big difference in the NPK of them. Depending on your soil 8-12N, 3-6P, 3-6K. I read of fertilisers like 10, 10, 10, and 8, 8, 8. I don't know where you buy them (USA stores?).

Eggplant (also Aubergine) 18 Apr, Pastor Dennis Naidoo (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
HI Guys Need some help on my black beauty egg plant. I have planted my egg plant about three months ago and there is no fruit appearing. The leaves are turning yellow and also there is something eating up the leaves. Any help will be appreciated. I;m based in KZN Richards Bay. God BLESS
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 20 Apr, M (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Check the planting guide - you may have planted too late. Find a spray for them, mix of molasses and water may do it. 1 tablespoon per litre water. Or find natural sprays on the internet. Leaves turning yellow could be deficiencies in nutrients in the soil. Read up on the internet.
Yacon (also Sunroot) 10 Apr, Nick (South Africa - Humid sub-tropical climate)
Hi. Did any one get some yacon. I am also interested in some. Thanks nick. Or any other exotic plants available.

Hi, I'm located in South Africa, Gauteng province in the town of Boksburg (near OR Tambo International airport. Is it possible to plant potatoes here early April to grow through winter? We dont have snow and rarely have frost? Regards
Potato 14 Apr, Anon (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
The guide here says Jan to March - it is now April. I suggest you plant ASAP.
Tomato 10 Apr, Kerry (South Africa - Humid sub-tropical climate)
Greetings! I'm hoping to start a small organic vegetable garden. Would now be ok to plant tomatoes, lettuce, onion, green pepper etc. I have a partially covered courtyard so I have the option to plant in containers too. Our winters here are not too bad, lovely days, cool/nippy evenings. Please advise. Regards, Kerry.

This website is for people to look up when to plant different vegetables etc. Work out your climate zone and check each vegetable when to plant.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 08 Apr, Hugh Thenasia (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
50cm between plants is not even close to sufficient IMHO. I have 2.5m between plants and can only just harvest comfortably...
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 09 Apr, Anon (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Never grown them but 50cm sounds far too close. If like tomatoes then 90-100 cm should be sufficient. The further apart the more soil the plant has to draw nutrient from and then the bigger the plant in size. I have zucchini plants approx 1.2m across, nothing growing near them.
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 05 Apr, Diane (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
It's April. Summer is over. My chillie bush has produced many chilliest. Now leaves are showing signs of withering. Does not look healthy. Is this normal as Winter approaches? Or is my plant being affected by some kind of fungus or disease?
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 08 Apr, Hugh Thenasia (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Sounds normal to me, but without a picture I cannot be sure. However, my bushes have also started this and it's normal as the cold weather hits. (You might want to prune the bush back in a month or two so it can over-winter) ;-)

Potato 30 Mar, Another gardener (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
Read the notes here the info is all there. One thing they say is to plant Aug/Sept etc, same as where I live in Australia. But here they plant April/May and also in Aug Sept.
