Pumpkin 15 Aug, Shaun (Australia - temperate climate)
hi David I've had success with butternut from seed for the past two years. I start the seeds off in spring, after I'm sure that the temperature overnight won't drop too low. I start the seeds off in small covered trays, usually on a window ledge to catch the morning sun. I plant out the seedlings around the end of September.

Hi DAVID I live in Wantirna. Last year i had a very sucessful crop of butternuts grown from seed. I did find that i needed to hand pollinate though to get the good results. Seed generally take 7 days to germinate. Dont overwater early Hope this helps Phil

Hello, I would also like to grow Yacon ...... I live in Forcett, can you give me tips on growing this plant too. Do you have any plants?
Yacon (also Sunroot) 20 Nov, Karen (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi, Daleys nursery will ship to Tassie and WA as I just bought some yacon and most companies will not ship to WA and Tassie. However it is pricey to ship because of the quarantine laws I think 2 tubers cost me around $80 to WA. the tubers themselves were only about $15

How long does it usually take for seeds to sprout. I have sowed seeds 4 weeks ago and still they haven't sprouted - getting concerned. Maybe it was too early?

Hi, I had cauli growing beautifully in my raised bed until recently when the tight heads started to grow unevenly ie no longer in a tight bunch and spreading out and up seperately. They get sun for most of the day. Also, when do you harvest? The stalks are still green and getting quite long and uneven in length. :-( Help please....

Carrot 12 Aug, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
on another reputable website it is suggested to plant root crops together, yet you suggest here not to plant carrots with parsnips or beetroot. Is there a specific reason for this? Response : We used information from various reputable sources but acknowledge that in gardening there are often different approaches.Liz
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 12 Aug, bob westport (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
how long a life has an egg plant got or is it just an annual plant
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 01 Sep, indy (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Eggplant is a semi-tropical perennial that's best treated as an annual in temperate or cooler clmates . Unless you've been able to source reliable heritage varieties the best fruit is most likely going to only be had during the first season
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 11 Aug, robin doyle (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
do you have to have two gooseberry plants to pollinate each other ? thanks
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 20 Aug, Danielle (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Robin, Cape Gooseberries are self-pollinating, so you only require one plant. If you have the room to grow two though, I'd recommend it as they're very tasty!
Horseradish 11 Aug, Kevin (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
