Ginger 19 Feb, Jacques Jacobs (South Africa - Semi-arid climate)
Good day Hannalie. It is always better to grow in a tunnel. "Tip" to heat the tunnel up in winter: build your compost pile inside the tunnel. The heat from the compost pile can increase the temperature of your tunnel with up to 10*C.

Daikon (also Japanese radish, Lo Bok) 02 Aug, Urmila Sriskanda (Australia - temperate climate)
I tried growing daikon from seed during winter but it did not grow. Would you plant the seeds into a seedling tray first or into the soil?
Daikon (also Japanese radish, Lo Bok) 12 Aug, Chris (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Daikon don't transplant well, but you could grow them in seed tubes so they can be transplanted without any disturbance. The ground might have been too cold for them to germinate over winter. They are often planted in summer/autumn in cold regions.

Give them time. Sometimes they are slow but before long you'll start to see the flowers drop and the beans appear.

Hey Pete, Reckon someones pulling your leg. Pumpkins produce male and female flowers on the same vine, but only the female flowers produce fruit.
Pumpkin 15 Nov, Hank (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Pete, I am aware of that but don't you have to manually pollinate them and if so, what is the best way?
Broad Beans (also Fava bean) 29 Jul, Nirbeeja (Australia - temperate climate)
My broad beans are good strong plants, heaps of flowers, but fruit is not setting. Whereas the peas are showing fruit, so it shouldn't be lack of pollination. Bees are around but very wet & windy weather. Any ideas?

Pumpkin 27 Jul, Pete (Australia - temperate climate)
I am told by a number of people around my area that I should only plant seed from a 'female' pumpkin. I understand each plant has both male and female flowers needed to produce fruit. Am I being fed a myth? All my efforts to find out the facts lead nowhere. Question-- can you sex a pumpkin?
