Ihave some apple cucumbers growing. Some plants have a good crop others have none at all. What is going on?
Cucumber 08 Nov, Ashley Duffin (Australia - arid climate)
This sounds like a pollination problem. if you are using bug sprays , avoid using during flowering. having more of the same plants close together (high density plantings) can aid this also , although a use of trellising to keep area workable may be needed, to avoid mildew diseases. If sprinkler watering try doing this when pollination insects are less active to stimulate more productive pollination.

Rhubarb 25 Jan, Gordo (Australia - temperate climate)
When I was a young child in Scotland my 'job' was to empty the teapot on the rhubarb patch. I don't think it ever got any fertilizer as that was another of my occasional 'jobs' on other parts of the garden. The plants were cut back before the snow and covered with buckets until spring. We had mountains of the rhubarb for most of the year as well as jam in the cold part.
Cucumber 25 Jan, Kerry (Australia - temperate climate)
I planted a couple of cucumber plants. I had never done this before. Next thing I know these pumpkin looking plants popped up. (Had no idea what they were. Thought I had been given wrong plants in my punnet. ). Now I have heaps of apple cumbers but the leaves on the plants look different. One darker than the other. The darker plant is providing no fruit, the other is very generous. Should I keep the plant with the darker leaves or discard
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 24 Jan, Deb (Australia - temperate climate)
This is my second year of growing capsicums, I just pruned it at the end of season last year. Noticed the capsicums this year are more red in colour than the common green last year. But my question is can I prune them again this year ready for next year or will I be wasting my time. I have had a good return although they are not massive in size. Thanks. Deb
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 30 Jan, David (Australia - temperate climate)
Capsicums are bi-annual...if they are 2 seasons old pull them out. I think most people would plant new each year. Red Capsicums start green, and turn red as they ripen, but you can eat them at any stage.

Hi, I love growing chillies, particularly habaneros and piquins. I have some plants which I bought from a nursery and stand at heights ranging from 50cm-110cm tall, and others which I have grown from seed. It is currently mid summer in Sydney, Australia, and I was wondering if I need to move my chillies when it becomes colder. Do I have to prune the plants, and when do I have to prune them?-Daniel
