Ginger 31 Jan, Sonia (USA - Zone 9b climate)
I've bought ginger for 40 plus years of my 60 plus life and each batch gives me 1 or 2 sprouts so last few years I have grown those rhizomes and multiplied. This weekend I harvested about 7 lbs of those babies and many more to go but that will be done around March-April. Going to share some and consume the rest in various forms. Yes I live in zone 9b.

Local weather conditions come into play, here is only a guide.
Broad Beans (also Fava bean) 31 Jan, Aaron (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Apparently, falafel was originally made from dried Broad Beans. I've tried them in a "meatless" patty in burgers. First boiling the beans till they start to soften then putting them in a blender. They don't have the gritty texture chickpeas can have. Even a confirmed carnivore like me was happy eating them.

Hi, can dwarf runner beans be over-watered please? Mine were great, then the leaves looked a wee bit brown so my Mom watered them and this morning they look like they're dying, the leaves have curled and they re wilting.

If you have heavy clay soil you could over water. Could be wilt.

Look up an organic spray on the net. Most things in nature breeds around rainfall - birds, weeds, insects etc.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 25 Jan, (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
I sow seeds in November last year which was bought from Bunnings and they are still very tiny plants around 15cm height. Not sure what's wrong or do I just need to be patience?
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 27 Jan, Anon (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
I think you have very poor soil. Or it is very hot temperature. Try again early autumn.
Okra (also Ladyfinger, gumbo) 25 Jan, Taryn (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I got mine from Bunnings, i I only planted about 5 plants, but they sure have produced a lot. I have another 12 i just planted, i'll do more in the next few weeks. They produce a lot in Brisbane, so if you need a lot of seeds, you may want a pack from bunnings or ebay, let the first crop go to seed, and next season you have loads of seeds to use?
Okra (also Ladyfinger, gumbo) 17 Feb, Ben (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi Taryn, when did you plant your seeds? Are you harvesting the fruits already? I've just planted in couple of seeds (I'm in Brisbane). Am i to late? Ta
Pumpkin 24 Jan, chris (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Planted a few grey pumpkin plants, but all seem to be coming on orange. Last season the first 2 on the vine ended up giant orange and the rest were grey. What do we need to do to get just the grey ones. Cheers.
